2010/11 First Quarter
Family MinistriesThis quarter has been full of exciting developments in Family Ministries and we have a number of initiatives that support our vision of helping families find traction within the Church and the City.
We launched the LINC Ministry, which pairs new families with families that are well-integrated into City Church to provide a personal touch and help these families get integrated into the city and our church. We have 24 LINC families on board and have already matched 4 new families with these veteran families.
The Community Group team has been able to increase the amount of family friendly community groups from 4 Community Groups to 8.
The church continues to provide events like the Harvest Festival and the Trolley Christmas Caroling for families to meet new families and connect with others.
One of the reasons that Family Ministries was created in 2009 was to address the concerns of families leaving the church because they move out of San Francisco. As you may know there are a lot of challenges to raising a family in the city; expense, community, education concerns and for families at City Church, their children's spiritual development. Families continue to leave San Francisco but there are several families who have seen the efforts and resources that City Church is investing in ministries that make up Family Ministries (Nursery, Children and Student Ministries) and have told us that although it is a sacrifice for their families to stay in San Francisco, they do not feel they are sacrificing their family's (especially their kids') spiritual well being to do so. The more families that stay in the city, the more other people can see that it is possible to raise a family here and continue to be a part of what God is doing in and through City Church.
In 2010 we have committed additional resources to this Ministry which have allowed us to hire V Kehoe (The Family Ministries Associate) who is doing an amazing job in supporting the ministry as a whole. Having V allowed us to respond to the request of parents by creating a family directory that was just published. |
