The Gospel According to Bono:
Monday, July 21 | Discussion Leader: Dan Gannon
The Irish band U2 is arguably the most significant rock band of its generation, its lead singer is a fella named Bono. Bono is a fascinating figure, his band sells millions of records and sells out stadiums around the world. Bono is also a man of deep faith and conviction who subtly quotes from the Bible whether it’s a keynote address at a DATA conference, the National Prayer Breakfast or the Super Bowl Halftime show. At the same time Bono drops “f-bombs” in interviews, relays stories of his nights partying and drinking; unites legislators, heads of state, and industrial billionaires in order to secure billions of dollars in debt relief to help lift Africa out of poverty. Who is this Irishman, that even Republicans and Democrats are swayed by him? What can we learn from him?
Blogosphere, Community, and Identity
Monday, July 28 | Discussion Leader: Matt Nault
Over 70 million weblogs are currently on the web, with 120,000 new blogs created every day (more than 1.4 every second!). Blogging has dramatically influenced everything from news and politics to entertainment and self expression, and continues to grow more and more explosive. In this new digital landscape, the line is blurred between private and public thought and discourse. What is the significance and affect of blogging on communities and the individual? Are people more their "true self" or their "false self" writing from behind the computer screen than they would be sitting at a table in a cafe with a friend? Is the blogosphere a true community or a shadow of the real thing? Come, join the conversation and hear others' thoughts as you share your own.
Dangerous Love: Loving San Francisco in the Midst of its Violence
Monday, August 4 | Discussion Leader: Paul Trudeau
San Francisco. The world class city with arts, entertainment, culture, cuisine, recreation, and... a tremendous violent streak. How do we think about the reality of violent crime in such a wonderful city? What does it mean to be aware of the plight of victims of violent crime, and how can we grow our compassion for those who suffer? How do we safeguard ourselves from violence and still remain open and sensitive to the needs of our city? Come, share your own perspective and experiences with violence in the City in this important and relevant discussion.

Jesus and the Art of Automobile Maintenance
Monday, August 18 | Discussion Leader: Drew Yamamoto
"How long oh Lord?" More and more people are praying this prayer as they head to the pump and watch the prices continue to climb. How can we take practical steps in order to deal with the challenges of rising fuel costs? What can we do not only to make a difference in our wallets, but also in our communities? For those of us that can't give up our cars, how do steward them better? For those of us who have transitioned away from owning a car, what were the hard decisions that had to be made?
