Harvest Festival

The time of year has come again to dress up in costumes, eat lots of sugar, and crash at 8pm. Oh, and your kids can come, too!

The 9th Annual Harvest Festival is happening on Sunday, October 27th in the auditorium at the Russian Center--although you may not recognize the auditorium, transformed as it will be into an autumnal paradise. There will be bales of hay, pumpkins to be carved, a fishing game, photo booth, and plenty of milk bottles to be knocked over. You are invited to dress as festively as you like, or not, but let's be honest--this is San Francisco. We've all got a little plaid in our closets.

One of the best things about the Harvest Festival is the diverse group of people it brings together every year. It's a great space for families, of course, with lots of fun games for kids and grown-ups alike. We also get to gather together younger folks, older folks, church members, and those who are coming to a church event for the first time. It is one of our church's biggest events each year, and each year the crowd enjoys the ability to spend time together having fun, with no agenda.

2011 Harvest Festival To that end, this is a fantastic event to invite your friends and neighbors to check out! There will be postcards in your worship folders that you can give to anyone who might be interested in coming. It's a great time, and will be a comfortable setting for people who may not come to church otherwise.

San Francisco band Carolyna PickNick will be filling the auditorium with bluegrass music, and there will be a spread of all the best fall foods: Chili, cornbread, cotton candy, popcorn, hot dogs, and more. In order to make the evening taste even better, we're asking folks to pitch in by bringing something to eat or drink: For those with last names A-K, please bring something to drink--soda, juice, beer, or wine. And for those with last names L-Z, please bring a dessert to share.

Maggie Rockers, this year's Harvest Festival coordinator, has taken on a big job in running the show on the 27th. She is still looking for volunteers to help with the set-up and teardown, as well as a few other jobs. Send her a quick email if you are able to help, even just for a small amount of time.

The Harvest Festival will take place Sunday, October 27th from 4pm to 7pm at the Russian Center auditorium.
