“Listen to your life. See it for the fathomless mystery it is.”

With that quote, Frederick Buechner issues an invitation and a challenge. The invitation is to listen, to take some time and create some space within yourself for being and receiving. And the challenge is to look beyond the meals and conversations and work that makes up your day and to see your life for its endless mystery. This is what the City Church men’s retreat will be focusing on when it takes place on Friday, November 14-Saturday, November 15 at the Vallombrosa Center in Menlo Park.

We will be looking at the idea of birthright—that we are all made in the image of God, and that God’s goodness is original in all of us. But somewhere along the way, we discount that birthright in our pursuit of other things. In looking at our identity in the narrative of creation, fall, and redemption, we will spend some time together seeking to listen and understand how our birthright is actually something inherent and bestowed upon us; something we cannot get rid of no matter how hard we might try.
