The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Today’s symbol is the burning bush. God spoke to Moses from the burning bush and promised to save his people.

Thanks be to God!

Scripture reading : Exodus 3:1-15 (or Exodus 1:8-14 and 2:1-10*)

Many years after Joseph lived, a new Pharaoh came to power in Egypt. He did not remember Joseph, and was afraid of Joseph’s descendants. He forced God’s people to be his slaves. But God did not forget his people. God spoke to Moses out of a burning bush, and told him the holy name: “I AM”. The living God gave Moses an important job: go to Pharaoh and tell him, “Let my people go!”

Moses obeyed God, and God was with him. Moses led the people out of Egypt and safely across the Red Sea. They traveled in the wilderness for forty years, and God spoke to the people through Moses. He gave the people God’s laws, and showed them how God wanted them to live. Moses taught Israel to trust God, love others, and look out for the poor and weak. He stood in God’s presence, and showed Israel how to come close to God.

pray:
God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, you are our God, too. You are living, and you are the God who saves. Help us to come close to you, and to honor you like Moses did. Amen.
