Extravagant Generosity

Update on December Goals

Thank you City Church! We set what we thought was an ambitious goal for giving in December 2014, but it was also based on wisdom from past trends. December has historically been a watershed month for giving, and after the most  generous December we have ever experienced in 2013 we set the target to match what was raised that year. We knew our $1.38 million target was audacious, what we didn’t know was just how generous the congregation would be, giving over $1.5 million by the time the month drew to a close, from 500 households. We are grateful for those that gave so generously in December and we are grateful for those that give faithfully on a regular basis throughout the year.

Year End Giving Update

“When people ask me about my vision for City Church,” said senior pastor Fred Harrell, “my first answer is always that I hope to multiply what we are already doing, in different forms and fashions all over the city, to reach different people where they are.” This, of course, is closely tied to City Church’s mission to follow Christ to renew the city, and this year, we are excited and grateful to begin doing that work in some new ways.

Your generosity is both a source of incredible encouragement to our volunteers and staff as well as the means by which City Church can continue in its mission. Attendance has grown in this last calendar year, which means that we have our hands full trying to make sure our spaces are as welcoming as possible. Our classes and retreats have been full throughout the year, and we are glad we can continue to offer spaces to learn and engage in personal growth by exploring topics like grief, anxiety, and a Christian perspective on the  Enneagram.

Last year saw over 40 people involved in mentoring at City Church, with women at County Jail, children at El Dorado Elementary School, and men in recovery from addiction. Six new Community Groups were started last year, and our deacons and Counseling Center have been at work to meet needs for health and healing in San Francisco.

We’re confident that God is at work in San Francisco, and your generosity means that we get to continue to follow His lead into renewing the city, in old ways and new. Thank you for all that you have given and done. We are excited to move into this new year with resources to partner with God’s good work.
