Rusty’s Roundup

When Rusty’s Southern opened in April under to the new City Hope Community Center in the Tenderloin, they started with a dinner menu. Weekend brunch soon followed, and now they’re open for lunch, too. The popular spot has seen a host of visits from critics and reviewers, and we thought it would be fun to share some of the best with you. If you haven’t visited yet, come by for an all-church happy hour on Monday, August 17th, at 6:30. In the meantime, take a look at some of these reviews to whet your appetite...

SF Weekly :

“Rusty's fried chicken sandwich is perfectly fried... a genuine Southern meal.”

EaterSF :

“[A] cheerful mom-and-pop operation, which boasts 65 seats and a short-and-sweet menu of Southern classics inspired by Rusty's Carolina upbringing...And if that wasn't enough Southern hospitality, Rusty's also has a charitable component: the Olsons host regular dinners for their upstairs neighbors, City Hope Community Center, which aims to build community for locals who've recently been released from jail or rehab.”

Over at Hoodline, chef Frances Rubio said:

"The two most important, base things in life are food and relationships. You need to eat and you need people around you.”

SF Chronicle review :

“At Rusty’s Southern, in the heartland of the Tenderloin, barbecue doctrine gives way to what simply tastes right.”

And finally, Thrillist called Rusty’s one of the 15 Best New Restaurant Openings in Spring 2015:

“San Francisco’s current obsession with soul food continues in this casual Tenderloin eatery, featuring classic Southern fare, curated handcrafted beer, communal tables, and a Plinko board”
