If you lived somewhere else, you might mark the beginning of summer with a trip to the beach or glass of cold lemonade. In San Francisco, we do things a little bit differently. Summer may not be defined by warm weather, but we’re going to do our best to enjoy it together this year with a few new activities here at City Church.
Some things will remain the same: We will continue to do monthly all-church happy hours at Rusty’s Southern, beginning Monday, June 6th. There will be delicious food for all to enjoy and beer and wine available for purchase--it’s a great family event.
Some things have shifted: In lieu of the summer conversations we’ve hosted for several years, 2016 marks the launch of a series we’re called Talkumentary. Once a month throughout the summer, we’re going to be showing a documentary and hosting a conversation afterwards. Our first screening will be on Thursday, June 23rd at the City Hope Community Center, and we’ll be watching the documentary True Cost, about the clothes we wear and the people who make them. Later in the summer, we’ll watch films about cultural masculinity (The Mask You Live In) and about female representation in the political process (Miss Representation).
Near the end of June, we’ll have an opportunity for you to participate in a faith and work retreat that seeks to address the practical ways that we navigate issues of faith in the workplace.
There will also be a couple of chances to participate in potluck-style summer dinners, which are casual evenings hosted at someone’s home where people have a chance to hang out with their fellow City Church attenders, bring a new friend, and meet new people. It’s a great way to say hi to someone from a different campus and enjoy a leisurely setting where you can make new friends.
A few other events you won’t want to miss include a night of roller skating (dig yours out of the closet!), some mini-golf at Urban Putt, and a family night at a Giants game.
