Ash Wednesday Service

Ash Wednesday is the beginning of the season of Lent, a stretch of the church calendar marked by self-examination, reflection, and spiritual renewal. The season is also a reminder of Jesus' 40 days in the wilderness, where he fasted and endured temptation in a time leading up to Palm Sunday. On Ash Wednesday, we gather together as a church to mark the beginning of this season of waiting and renewal. We are marked, too, on this day. A cross on the forehead, made with ashes, reminds us both who we are ('Remember that thou art dust, and to dust thou shalt return,' in the words of Genesis 3) and whose we are—we belong to the one who died on the cross and in whose ashes we find new birth.

We hope you'll join us for our Ash Wednesday service as we begin the journey of Lent.

Children

Nursery available for 0-35 months.

At City Church we encourage children’s participation in Lenten worship. Children will be invited into a short lesson during the homily and return before the imposition of ashes.  Nursery care is available for 0-36 months.
